After 14 years, Sass & Bide returned to Australian Shores

Sass & Bide’s return to the Australian runway was one of the most anticipated events of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week schedule. Australian Fashion Industry A-Listers, buyers, models, bloggers and celebrities queued together on Monday night in excitement to see the ‘Fiesta Barcelona’ show.

Celebrities in attendance included Sarah Ellen, Mimi Elashiry and Jennifer Hawkins. Each dressed by Sass & Bide, ready for the brand’s iconic comeback.

Sass & Bide last showed in Sydney in 2003 and haven’t shown on Australian shores for 14 years. Over the years, we’ve all owned a bit of Sass & Bide in our wardrobes, even our mums and friends have too! I could feel the eager buzz in the air before the show began.

The Fashion Show Details

The crowd walked into the largest Carriageworks room. Lighting was minimal and tinted deep red, enhancing the architectural tissue paper designs that filled the centre of the room. The runway lead around the room in a large square. It stretched from almost one wall to the other. Guests and photographers were grouped around the runway, sitting and standing on the outer edges.

The runway began with a room of anxious and excited onlookers. Sass & Bide showed off their brand’s iconic mix of monochrome black and white with a touch of silver and gold. The ‘Fiesta Barcelona’ theme was amplified by bright shades of tangerine, electric blue, and peach. Models looks took on board the brand’s iconic aesthetic. The flowing silhouettes of tassels, pieces bedazzled in sequins, long pleated skirts, beading and fine excessive fringing cemented the Sass & Bide brand.

The show presented an exciting mix of party pieces for the Resort 18 collection, and also a mix of models! To show the brand’s versatility, models across a range of ages strutted down the catwalk confidently and briskly.

Sass & Bide presented a long and diverse show. The Industry-only crowd applauded the eclectic Resort 18 range and the comeback of an iconic Australian brand.

We would have loved to see the Sass & Bide eyewear on the runway!

I would have loved to see the Sass & Bide eyewear range scattered throughout the runway looks. I loved the diversity already presented during the show. An inclusion of the eyewear range would have perfectly completed several of the embellished and bright styles to create full, wearable outfits for the optical audience.
